 At
a time of their lives when most couples would be looking at slowing down
and taking it easy, Val Mazzuca, on the far left, and his wife, Violet
Mazzuca on the far right, are showing no signs of changing speed.
The photo was taken immediately after Val and Vi had cut the ribbon,
officially opening the new Hart Department Store at the Hanmer Valley
Shopping Centre, a place they have been proud landlords of since March
1971. The scissors and the ribbon will be displayed in a place of honour
in the mall as part of a large portrait shadow box commemorating the
exciting event.
In the summer of 2004, Val and Vi decided that they would undertake a
major expansion of the mall to make room for Hart. They are continuing in
2005 with a number of other initiatives which will continue to elevate
their shopping centre to a higher level as one of the top shopping centers
in the entire Sudbury District. They are definitely not slowing down. |

Exercise Programs Among All Age Groups
 The
Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre is much more than just a place to go for
groceries or to pick up your retail supplies. It is one of the largest
indoor walking trails in the Greater Sudbury District. Better yet, it is
open seven days a week from as early as 8 a.m. in the morning. Bring your
favourite walking shoes any time of the day and enjoy a leisurely walk

Mall Walking is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds. Where
else can you walk up to eight kilometers in an hour, enjoying friendly
conversation with your spouse or friends, listening to music of the 50's

even a full healthy breakfast? Walking is becoming recognized by fitness

| Use of the Mall by Community Groups
Will Be Increased During the 2006 Calendar Year |
| As we proceed deeper and deeper into the 2006 calendar
year, visitors to the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre will witness a
tremendous increase in the number of community groups that are using the
facility to generate public awareness of their organizations.
"We began a program in 2004 which was designed to create a
community-centre atmosphere at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre, and this
program will continue to be developed even further this year,"
explained Robert Kirwan, Marketing Manager for the mall.
 Kirwan
continued, "We have some of the best sitting areas in Northern
Ontario. Our community bulletin board is organized and up to date and has
been well received by the public. Our 50's and 60's hallway music creates
a happy, party-like environment and puts everyone in a good mood. Our mall
is one of the cleanest shopping centres you will find anywhere. You can
wear your slippers in our parking lot. Our mall walking program is growing
more popular every day. And there is much more to come."
Throughout the years, community groups and organizations have always
been welcome to use the mall facilities. The main objective of the program
that Kirwan is undertaking to develop is to create a situation where local
residents automatically think about dropping in to the mall "just to
see what is going on".
"The more involved we become with the community, the more activity
people can come to expect at the mall," Kirwan stated. "We want
to be known as a centre of recreation and entertainment as much as a place
where you come to shop. The mall is going to be the place to be in 2006 -
the true community centre for Valley East! |
