SUDBURY PORTION OF WARD 5
MACLEAN PARK AREA, SOUTH OF LASALLE

The area that is south of Lasalle Blvd, from the taxation centre to Madeleine Street is also part of Ward 5 and is another unique part of the city. It consists of older homes in a nice quiet subdivision. I spoke with a number of home owners in this area and they too had some concerns that I intend to deal with if elected.

McLean Park Playground

While the McLean Park Playground is located in a nice quiet section of the subdivision, it is in much need of upgrading.

The clubhouse is in good shape and is used for many purposes, including a summer day camp.

With a little bit of sod, a resurfacing of the basketball net, and perhaps some upgrading of the oval track that goes around the park, it could really be made to look like something to be proud of.

Walking Path From Taxation Centre

The trail that leads from the Taxation Centre is well used by employees who want to take a brisk walk around the neighbourhood during their lunch or dinner breaks. I would like to see more paths like this created along the creeks that form part of the Junction Creek drainage network.

Drainage Ditches Need To Be Fenced In

A number of parents and grandparents expressed concern about the drainage ditches that run along the south side of the neighbourhood. The water can get quite high and there is no fencing to keep the young children safe. With so many grandchildren playing in the fields to the south of the subdivision, this raises a lot of concerns.

Dead End Turn-Arounds

While some of the dead-end streets have turn-a-rounds at the end of the street, there are some where cars must turn around by pulling into driveways. Residents would also like to see these turn-a-rounds paved in continuation of the street to keep down the mud and ruts.

Nature Trails Would Be Appreciated

A number of residents would like to see nature trails developed along the area to the south of the subdivision. Currently there are a lot of quad trails, but the city could easily turn these into walking trails that the demographics of this part of town would find very attractive.

Felix Ricard School Partnership

The school board property that is accessed off of Madeleine Street is a place where a partnership between the municipality and the school board could prove very beneficial. The neighbourhood children already use the playground facilities during the evenings and on weekends, so it has been suggested that the municipality provide funding to improve the playground equipment and the ball field so that the school could benefit from the enhancements during school hours and the community can enjoy them during off hours. This is something that must be done to help improve the recreational facilities available to this part of the City.

Lise Prevost Parc

The Lise Prevost Parc is a delighful place for adults to visit and relax while their children and grandchildren are playing on the playground equipment. I promised a number of local residents that I would see if the City could help work with the school board to improve this park in order for adults to use it during non-school hours.
