Jim and Lynda Allsop, on the left, along with their daughter,
Christina and her husband, Tyler Merrin, are shown examining a composite
portrait of Ben Hogan and several other golfing legends. The picture will
hang in a place of honour near the entrance to Grill Marks Restaurant,
Golf & Conference Centre, symbolizing the proud tradition they will
recreate as the new ownership group of what has been described as the
“Jewel of the North”.
Christina and Tyler met five years ago while attending a Chef’s
training school in
North
Bay
.
In October 2007 -they took over responsibility for the food and beverage
services at Clearview Golf & Country Club and opened up their own
restaurant, Grill Marks Bistro. After spending the winter talking to
patrons and getting to know the community, they realized that this was
where they wanted to make their dreams come true. That lead to discussions
with Christina’s father, Jim, who has been a certified arborist for 22
years, and her mother, Lynda, who has won numerous awards from Inco and
the Sudbury Horticultural Society for her gardening ventures. The group of
four realized that their combined experiences and expertise could bring
about a “renewal” of this once proud facility and together they could
help restore the proud “golf and country club atmosphere” which people
had once enjoyed at Clearview.
DEVELOPMENT
OF CONFERENCE CENTRE
In order to take full advantage of the tremendous versatility of the
facility, the group has decided to expand the operation into a more
complete complex and will be known as the Grill Marks Restaurant, Golf
& Conference Centre.
“We have a very busy
summer planned and each of us will be concentrating on a different aspect
of the operation,” Jim explained during a recent interview. “Christina
and Tyler are responsible for all of the food, beverages and hospitality
services. They are going to make sure that you have a pleasant time while
you are here and that everything you eat or drink is going to be of the
highest quality.
Lynda
is going to take care of making the course look beautiful and I am going
to work with our Green’s Superintendent, Peter Woytowich to make sure
that the layout, tee areas, greens, cart paths and general course
conditions are perfect for golfers right from the opening day. We will
have a well-stocked pro shop to provide you with all of the necessities
you might need to enjoy your round.”
In addition, we have put in place a marketing and public relations plan of
action that will make the businesses and organizations of the area aware
of the services we have available to meet their specific needs. More
information will be provided in the near future about all of the different
components of Grill Marks Bistro, Golf & Conference Centre.
