a primary location for digestion, her responsibilities go beyond esthetics
when it comes to creating a set of dentures for someone.
"My job is to provide my clients with a dental appliance to
replace part or all of their natural teeth," explained Nicole when
asked to tell us what denturism is all about. "My clients come to me
for help in reinstating mastication to aid digestion, and to also improve
or reestablish esthetics for a more confident smile.”
One myth that Nicole would like to clear up is that many people feel
dentures are easier to take care of than natural teeth. This is untrue.
"It is just as important to put in the same care and maintenance into
your denture as you would your natural teeth.
This means regular check ups of your gums and dentures to ensure
there are no anomalies like cancer or other diseases.
At an annual check up your denture will be professionally cleaned,
polished and inspected for fractures and adjusted if needed
Another myth that Nicole wants to dispel is that some people think you
can put your dentures in and never take them out.
"Dentures should be removed at the end of each day, usually at bed
time, in order to allow gum stimulation and blood flow to help keep the
gums healthy." she explained. "By removing them before you go to
bed you also eliminate the risk of choking if your dentures are loose
fitting."
