Local Business Group Launches Community Development Initiative

The Valley East Today Community Development Initiative was launched on Friday, February 6, 2009 by a group of business persons who attended a special meeting held at the Grill Marks Bistro, Golf & Conference Centre.

The meeting was organized by Robert Kirwan, who owns and operates a local business development consulting firm in Val Therese. The purpose of the meeting was to develop a strategic plan of action that will create an effective communication network which will eventually allow residents of Valley East to become much more aware of the tremendous benefits of living in Greater Sudbury’s most progressive community. The Community Development Initiative will not only result in a much high degree of community spirit, it will also stimulate economic growth among goods and service providers operating in Valley East . This will help insulate Valley businesses from the ravages of the deep recession we have entered.

The Valley East Today Community Development Initiative is proudly supported by The Vision Paper, which will continue in its role as one of the most important communication vehicles through which residents of the community may remain connected and engaged. We will also utilize the community web site and online magazine, www.valleyeasttoday.ca as well as the weekly radio program hosted by Kirwan at CKLU 96.7 FM and streamed live over www.cklu.ca  The businesses, schools, churches, organizations and groups that join in as active participants of the Community Development Initiative will utilize the power of word of mouth to facilitate further communication among the 25,000 people who call Valley East home.

The ultimate goal is to pull together all of the groups, organizations and clubs that are currently involved in their own special events and activities during the year. We want to create awareness of the “big” picture of the magnitude and scope of what Valley East has to offer to residents.

   The truth is that
Valley East has a “massive” amount of activity going on at any given time during the course of the year! When you put it all together there is no other town that offers such a wide & diverse variety of opportunities for the benefit of people of all ages and backgrounds. Once people become fully aware of the whole picture, it is felt that community pride and community spirit will go through the roof. This will result in Valley East being even more attractive to newcomers seeking a place to buy or build a new home in the Greater Sudbury Area, thus stimulating our local economy even further.

The next meeting is open to all business owners and professional service providers; schools, churches, organizations, clubs and service groups operating in
Valley East . In fact, if you are a resident of Valley East and you are interested in helping make the community a better place, then you are invited as well.

You have your choice of two times for the next meeting so that you can fit it into your own busy schedule. For people who prefer evenings, you are encouraged to attend on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The morning meeting will be held the following day, Friday, March 6, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at Grill Marks Bistro, Golf & Conference Centre at the top of the hill in Val Caron. Mark the dates in your calendar. Advance registration is not necessary. Just drop in and take part. There is no charge to anyone to take part in this initiative.
