If
you love parades, make sure you don’t miss the St. Jean-Baptiste
Parade being held on Sunday June 24. The parade will assemble at the
Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre at 10 a.m. with departure time scheduled
for 11 a.m. The route will end at the Knights of Columbus grounds on
Emily Street, the site of the Annual Paroisse St-Jacques Picnique de la
Saint Jean Baptiste which will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In
conjunction with the parade and picnic, the Club Optimiste Valley Est is
organizing a “Safety on Wheels” bicycle clinic for all children of
Valley East between the ages of 6 to 14. The clinic will begin with the
parade. Children are invited to decorate their bicycle as they see fit,
keeping in mind all of the rules and regulations with respect to safety.
Those who wish to join the parade with their “scooter”, “roller
blades” or their “skateboard” are also welcome. You are also
reminded that all children under the age of 18 must wear a safety
approved helmet.
When
the bikers arrive at the Knights of Columbus grounds, they will take
part in the clinic, organized by Denise Fraser of the Sudbury Regional
Police. She will perform a safety check on the bikes and remind the
children of all of the safety rules that must be followed in order to
ensure a safe summer.
While
at the picnic, visitors will have a wide variety of activities from
which to choose and will enjoy an afternoon of fun, food and
entertainment.
