The Vision Salutes Art Lacasse As Our Nominee As Breakfast Club Chef Of The Year

Breakfast.jpg (34883 bytes)Art Lacasse routinely flips another dozen pancakes in the kitchen at St. Anne School in preparation for the 70 or 80 hungry mouths who will come barging through the doorway in a few minutes. Helping out her father is Natalie Lacasse, a Grade 6 student at the school.

Art Lacasse is the ‘Breakfast Club Chef’ at St. Anne School. Jointly sponsored by the Human League Association and St. Anne School, the Breakfast Club is designed to provide young children with a healthy, nourishing breakfast every morning to help them face the challenges they will face in the classroom. For 30 hectic minutes each morning, Art, Natalie, and a third volunteer, Chrissy Villemere, also a Grade 6 student, serve up pancakes, juice, granola bars, cereal and milk to between 60 and 80 boys and girls. Every second day the main course is scrambled eggs.

The school recently purchased a new stove for Lacasse and he was expecting a new fridge to be delivered any time now. The weekly food bill comes to approximately $300 and is funded in part by the Human League and in part through special fund-raising efforts and donations at the school.

Studies have found that children who begin the day with a hearty breakfast tend to find it easier to learn new concepts and thus perform much better in school.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the program or in making a donation, should contact the Principal, Mr. Paul Mailloux at 969-2101.

The Vision Paper, on behalf of the entire community, wishes to thank Mr. Art Lacasse for making a real difference in the life of so many children.
