The
election of the first municipal government of the new Millennium and of
the City of Greater Sudbury is just days away! The people chosen will
play a large role in shaping our future over the next three years and
beyond, so when November 13 finally comes, ratepayers must make a very
important decision about who they want to act as our spokespersons.
The
candidates for Ward 3, shown above at the head table during the ‘Meet
The Candidates Night’ sponsored by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of
Commerce on October 23, will be on the hot seat again when The Vision
Paper presents a special ‘Meet The Candidates Night’ on Thursday,
November 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Centennial Arena. The evening will be an
excellent opportunity for candidates to express their opinions on
the major issues and to answer questions presented by the audience and
by other candidates.
The
Vision Paper and Infocom Canada have also provided Ward 3 residents with
a special site on the internet at www.thevisionpaper.com.
When you visit the site, click on Elections 2000, and you will find
everything you wanted to know about the candidates for Ward 3. Read what
they have to say and see if you agree with the direction they are
heading.
The
format of the ‘Meet The Candidates Night’ will include plenty of
time for questions from the audience. It will also feature an
opportunity for the audience to listen to candidates debate various
positions on some of the more contentious issues facing our City.
The
nine candidates running for the two (2) Council positions in Ward 3
include: Nicky Doyon; Ron Dupuis; Maurice Lamoreux; Marc Landry; Joe
Niceforo; Louise Portelance; Andre Rivest; Roger Trottier; and Len Zivny.
Over
150 people attended the first Meet The Candidates Night held on Monday,
October 23. The evening generated some spirited discussions and at times
provided food for thought for audience members. On November 2,
candidates will have another opportunity to solidify their positions and
perhaps satisfy some of the concerns expressed by residents during the
first meeting.
The
staff of the Vision Paper strongly encourages all residents to make a
sincere effort to attend this important ‘Candidates Night’. With so
little time remaining until decision day, it is crucial that we all
listen carefully to the candidates. After all, we will be certainly
listening to them for the next three years. Let’s make an informed
vote on November 13.

so that you can become better informed about
the
candidates. Ask the tough questions and make your choice. It will be a
choice you will have to live with for the next three years. And it will
be a choice which may affect you for much longer.
The
session begins at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Arena and is expected to end
at approximately 9:00 p.m.
