Entries Now Being Accepted For 3rd Annual Christmas House Decorating Contest

The 3rd Annual Christmas House Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Valley East Economic Development Committee and The Vision Community Paper is now looking for entries. Last year the contest attracted a total of 28 entries but it is expected that there will be much more interest this year. The contest was created  to encourage residents to bring the community to life during the holidays with brightly lit Christmas decorations throughout Valley East.

Placement and variety of lights; lawn ornaments, and; the development of a specific theme are three of the main categories that judges are looking for when choosing a winner.

Entries will be accepted right up until 12 noon on December 11. Forms can be dropped off at the City of Valley East Town Hall on Main Street in Val Caron; called in to 897-5168; or faxed to 897-1544.

Many observers commented on the fact that the City of Valley East was never so brightly decorated as it was in 1999. The high percentage of houses with some decorations is a reflection of the fantastic community spirit which exists among local residents.

For the first two years of the contest, the same people have come out on top in their respective areas. Phyllis Blaine and John Devost on Main Street in Blezard Valley; Valmond Lanteigne on Noel Crescent in Val Therese, and; Marcel Charbonneau on Gabrielle Street in Hanmer are defending champions and are looking for a three-peat!

The Economic Development Committee appreciates the generous support of local  businesses who donate prizes for the contest.

If you know of a person on your street who is deserving of recognition for the hard work he/she has done to make their house reflect the spirit of Christmas, please forward the name and address to the organizing committee. There can only be three winners, but just receiving a bit of recognition for a job well done is the least we can do for people who put so much effort into their decorating during the holidays.
