Charity Dinner For George Giroux Is A Labour of Love For His Friends

Cancer is a terrible disease which takes a terrible physical and psychological toll on families and friends. But when cancer strikes a young teenager like George Giroux, it is even more devastating.

George Giroux is a normal 15 year old, Grade 10 student attend Ecole Secondaire Hanmer. This past spring, George discovered a 13 cm tumour in his leg which had to be removed. He has been undergoing treatment in Ottawa for periods of one week every three weeks ever since the discovery.  His parents, Claude & Nicole, have experienced tremendous financial costs helping their son get the treatment he needs to survive this ordeal.

Michel Savoie, President of the 13th Poste St. Jacques Hanmer Scouts, is shown seated at the reception area at the Clearview Golf & Country Club on November 30 where he greeted members of the community who attended a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser for his friend, George. Savoie attends Grade 11 at College Notre Dame in Sudbury. Standing beside him is another of George’s friends, Remi Ferron, a Grade 11 student at Ecole Secondaire L’Horizon.

Savoie, who has known George for the past 7 years feels that there is a very good chance for a complete recovery and is doing what he can to ease the financial burden for the family. He will organize another dinner in February.

Anyone who is interested in making donations to the cause can contact Savoie at 969-8588.
