VALLEY EAST
RINGETTE ASSOCIATION

REGISTRATIONS FOR 2005-2006 SEASON HELD AT THE HANMER VALLEY SHOPPING CENTRE

Sara Waters, on the left, and Line Stone, President of the Valley East Ringette Association, take registrations for the 2005-2006 season at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre. This is the first year that the association has taken registrations in a place other than the arena, but judging from the response, it appears as if this will be the site of future registration sessions in years to come.

For Line Stone, beginning her first year as President, the 2005-2006 season holds a great deal of promise. Her goal is to increase the profile of the association and the sport this year in order to see a substantial increase in registrations for the 2006-2007 season.

She is expecting over 200 girls and close to 20 boys to become involved with the sport this year, with a personal goal of increasing those totals by up to 50% by next year.

One of the major events that Line is organizing for this year is an exhibition game between two of the National Ringette League teams in November. Sara Waters, a graduate of the Valley East Ringette Association will be a member of one of the teams on the tour and will be available for a skills clinic as well as the signing of autographs on the same day. More details about the visit from the top players in Canada will be posted at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre.

The entire Stone family spends a lot of time in the arenas during the winter months. Line is shown in the photo above with her three children. Ashley, 14, on the left, and Samantha, 15, on the right, are both talented ringette players and will be on the same Junior squad this season. The two girls are helping their 10 year old brother, Cameron, develop some excellent goaltending skills during practices in the driveway. Cameron is an Atom goaltender with the Valley East Minor Hockey Association.

A few of the ringette players were on hand to put on a demonstration at the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre during registration sessions. Teams play about 20 to 25 regular season games, plus playoffs and tournaments. They have at least one game and one practice each week. Most games are played at the Ray Plourde Arena in Val Caron, but there are games at Centennial Arena and in Capreol.

Valley East also ices 'A' Level Competitive teams in each division which play an additional 20 to 25 tournament games.
